4 Self-Care Habits That Will Change Your Life

It’s easy to forget about ourselves in the chaos of our daily routines. Life is non-stop and it always seems like the to-do lists get longer and longer with every passing day. We can’t let all those responsibilities distract us from our biggest priority; taking care of ourselves. Self-care is essential for leading a happy and healthy life. It’s easier than you think to implement a few daily activities.
Everyone’s self-care can look different because what makes you feel happy is unique to you. It’s not always bubble baths and at-home spa days. Self-care can be as little as making your favorite breakfast one morning a week or taking an extra 15 minutes to be alone with yourself and decompress during a busy day. If you’ve been looking to add some “me time” into your schedule, or you’ve just been feeling overwhelmed with the hustle and bustle of life, but don’t know where to start, try out some of these ideas.

Get Moving!

Exercise has been shown to improve your mood. Even a short walk around the block can help you clear your head and boost your energy. When you practice healthy habits you’ll feel healthy on the inside and out. If you’re not a fan of the gym or don't have the time to go for a walk, look up some quick 15-minute yoga or cardio videos online.

Spend Time With Yourself

Constantly being around other people can take an unconscious toll on our mental states. Sometimes it’s nice to take a break and realign with yourself alone. Try taking yourself on a date or go do that activity you’ve been wanting to do but haven’t had someone to go with. There’s no need to wait for someone to do things with you. Instead, get comfortable with your own company. You can even try turning off your phone (scary to think about, I know). Alone time can allow you to recharge.

Treat Yourself

Just like how with kids or pets we reward them for good behavior, we have to do that for ourselves as well. Life is too demanding and stressful to deprive ourselves of the things we enjoy. This idea of “treating yourself” doesn’t only include indulging in that delicious cupcake that's been stares at you every morning at the coffee shop. It can also include doing things that will bring you joy.

Sleep!

Life just seems more simple when you’re well-rested. Get those “zzz’s” in as much as your can. Whether that means going to bed a tad early or treating yourself with an extra 30 minutes in the morning, or even, taking that mid-day nap that you never allow yourself to take. Sleeping will elevate your mood and make you feel  more grounded.
Implement these steps into your daily routine and see how your mood and energy levels shift.
